Association Row

along Broadway, Bamboo Lane, Bernard and Cottage Home Streets

Early Chinese immigrants in America often found themselves in a strange and hostile environment. Thus, they created family, fraternal, and district associations in Chinatown to provide financial and legal assistance, shelter, and fellowship.

On North Broadway, Bamboo Lane, Bernard, and Cottage Home Streets, aka Association Row, is a concentration of some of these associations, some have been in existence for over a century. The Los Angeles Lodge of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance was established in 1912.
